Our Story
A History, A Family, A Domain…
1932: Armand & Gabrielle found the company
This is the story of a man, Armand, and his wife Gabrielle. Together they founded a family, and an estate… It all begins in 1932, in the heart of Saumur. At that time, Armand David devoted only 5 hectares of land to vines, the rest being used for cultivation to enable the estate to be self sufficient.
1957: Arrival of the noble grape varieties
1957: His son Louis and his wife, Michelle, took over the estate and decided to expand the vineyard. They introduced several noble grape varieties including Chenin, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay, and increased the vineyard from 5 to 12 hectares (from 1950 to 1970).
1986: Foundation of the Domain and direct sale
1986: As successive plantations progressed, Denis (son of Louis and Michelle) and his wife Annie enlarged the vineyard from 12 to 26 hectares, which made it possible to develop direct sales and the production of exceptional vintages, reflecting this ancestral knowledge.
2012: Development of new vintages with Sébastien
Sébastien and François, their children, are the 4th generation. Since Sébastien’s arrival in 2012, the estate has grown to nearly 50 hectares. Chenin grapes are the most common. They are grown alongside Cabernet Franc, Grolleau, Sauvignon and Chardonnay grapes, which once harvested and vinified serve as the basis for the Prestige d’Armand… but this is where we get lost.
2017: Francis follows in his brother’s footsteps
Where were we at? Oh yes! Because production does not go without sales and marketing, since 2017, François has brought our know-how, our image and our message to a much wider audience.
“We are the fourth generation! Our family continues to cultivate the land, the vines and the wine. We share with you this passion that was passed on to us by our parents, that was passed on to us by our grandparents, that was passed on to us by them… finally you understood.”
